Alternative metal veterans 10 Years took the stage at The Bourbon Theatre to a sold out rowdy crowd. They were one of the openers for Sevendust, but definitely had a strong contingency of their own fans in attendance. Opening the set with “Shoot it Out” from the 2009 release Feeding the Wolves album. That definitely set the tone for the rest of the set, you know it was going to be an intense show.

Lead vocalist Jesse Hasek came out as a mysterious shadow, hooded and makeup streaming down his face. He definitely captivated the audience with his commanding presence and strong vocals. 10 Years hits a wide range of music from hard guitar riffs to haunting melodies. It all works together seamlessly as the moved from song to song. It’s a nice range of music that they have become known for through the years. The fans were eating it up.

10 Years ripped through an eleven song set. A highlight for me was the hit Novacaine, which is a big fan favorite. It has a great driving beat and probably my favorite 10 Years guitar riff. It was also a song that really got the crowd going. The other highlight for me was the set ender, Wasteland. Which is just a great song, arguably their biggest hit. The song has such a great feel to it, lots of emotions packed into that song.  A great way for 10 Years to end the set.

But in-between you have this emotional roller coaster between heavy riffs and emotionally charged melodies. You are almost exhausted from the experience by the time the set is over. And since they were an opening act, their set is shorter than normal. I’d love to see them as a headliner and get the full effect of a 10 Years show. The show was a great testament to close to 20 years of music making and touring. Which, these days is quite an accomplishment. They are an excellent band and definitely worth the effort to see if you get the chance. Pair them with a band like Sevendust, you may need to take the next day off of work just to recover from the musical awesomeness of the night. I’m not sure that your boss will accept that as a valid excuse, but I would be willing to vouch for you.
